'Luminaires' addresses the disconnection between young people and the natural environment. Despite their strong concerns about climate change, young Australians can struggle to find motivation or inspiration to act. This design research aims to connect people to their sense of an eco-identity through porcelain 3D prints that simulate the textures and layering of biomorphic forms. The act of turning on a light that reveals the patterns and colours of natural forms seeks to inspire young Australians to connect with nature.
This was the outcome of my final thesis work titled, The Search for Eco-identity: how Lightshade Design through reflective making practice and biophilic design theory can create an awareness of the importance and personal connection to environment among young people in Australia
